Village Ecosystems Assocates:

Teri Jo Barber of Ridge to River Environmental is a registered Hydrologist with the American Institute of Hydrology. She has sixteen years experience implementing bioengineering projects on streams and roads in Mendocino County. She also has experience building constructive wetlands to process organic waste. Teri’s expertise will be helpful in landscape design for runoff and infiltration and in the use of beneficial living ecosystems.  

Michael Littlewood is a landscape archetect  with an extensive background in permaculture and ecological integration. Michael is the author ofseveral books including two on natural swimming pools:  Natural Swimming Pools A guide for Builders and Natural Swimming Pools Inspiration for Harmony with Nature. Michael has designed projects in many contries with componants in eco-building, bio-engineering, renewable energy, water harvesting and treatment, and nature conservation.

Anna Birkás founded Village Ecosystems to unite and market sustainable industries of Mendocino County. Anna is a General Building Contractor with  a B.S. in Ecology and an M.S. in Hydrology. She blends planning, building, and science to offer expert design and implementation services for sustainable rural and urban developments of all sizes.


Karen Youngblood
was born and raised in Mendocino County and is an expert in natural resources. She is versed in GIS mapping, botanical resources and wetland delineation. Her skills will help in the choice of species for landscaping and pools and the mitigation of environmental impacts.

Norman de Vall has been active in Mendocino County politics, land use planning, and environmental protection since the 1960’s. A county supervisor for sixteen years, he wrote much of the Mendocino County General Plan that is still in effect today. His knowledge of codes, ordinances and local government is invaluable in the acquisition of permits for innovative designs.

T.A. Carithers grew up on the Mendocino Trinity county line in one of the most rural areas in the United States. He continues to live with the intentional community of his birth, coming to town only every few weeks for supplies. He is an expert in sustainable and off- grid living and photovoltaic installation. Specific to water design he offers skills in micro-hydropower and drinking water system design and installation.

Joe Ødegaård, Architect AIA MendocinoArchitect.com, specializes in building durability and sustainable design. Joe has worked in Mendocino County on projects ranging from preservation of historic buildings and design of modern Sea Ranch residences to boat building, architectural illustration, and stonework. As an architect, he is committed to principles of effecient energy and resource use.

Dan Antonioli is a licensed general building contractor specializing in green renovation and development. He founded and developed the 611 EcoVillage, an intentional community in Oakland, is currently developing a green subdivision in Laytonville.  His work focus includes green design, building, and consultation for both residential and commercial projects. His background includes solar and renewable energy, sustainable water systems, conservation strategies, permaculture, green roofs, septic design, and land-use planning. Dan is available for building, design, and consultation.
